Melissa Blake
Senior Editor covering AI companion apps, AI image generators and consumer AI tools since 2022. Editorial responsibility for pixai-ai.io: page-by-page fact verification, correction logging, and the standards on the editorial policy page.
Coverage areas
AI image generators. PixAI is the current focus. Adjacent coverage includes Civitai (largest model marketplace, more permissive rules), NovelAI (subscription-first, strong anime), SeaArt (larger daily free credits), Tensor.art (community Stable Diffusion) and NightCafe (multi-engine). PixAI is measured against these platforms in editorial coverage rather than against straw versions of them.
AI companion and roleplay apps. Character.AI, Janitor AI, Replika, JuicyChat, Talkie. This is the broader beat that first-time readers arriving from a "download PixAI" search do not always ask about, but that shapes how the pricing, moderation and store-listing behavior on this page were framed.
Everything downstream of that. Freemium tier design and credit systems, App Store and Google Play publisher verification, community-driven model marketplaces and LoRA training workflows, the moderation policies these platforms publish, revise and quietly walk back.
Working method
Every page starts with primary sources read on the day of writing, not from cached notes. For PixAI that means docs.pixai.art, the payment FAQ at pixai.art/articles/en/payment-faq, the Content Guidelines on support.pixai.art, dated news posts at pixai.art/en/news, both store listings, and the release-note channel on Korea Newswire where Tsubaki.2 and Edit Pro were announced. Third-party reviews are only used when they are dated and named, and when they add something the primary sources do not: a billing pattern on Trustpilot documented in a May 2026 Scribe review, a filter behavior confirmed by a Mewtant developer reply on the App Store, a paying user's real pricing walkthrough on note.com from a Japanese subscriber in May 2026.
First-person testing claims that cannot be sourced do not go in. What Melissa personally verified is the App Store publisher line reading METANOMALY PTE. LTD., the Google Play package reading io.mewtant.pixaiart, the payment FAQ paragraph that recommends subscribing on the web, and the Content Guidelines paragraph that lists Normal, Flagged and Sensitive tiers. Everything past that is credited to the source that observed it.
Positions on PixAI
The access-page position is honest about the trade. The engine is polished for anime and stylized art. The free tier is genuinely generous at 10,000 credits per day. The Realtime Canvas does not need an account, which is unusual and useful. The first-party model cadence (Tsubaki.2 in March 2026, Edit Pro in May 2026) earns attention. Those are the positive lines.
The trade-offs are also on the page. The mobile filter is meaningfully stricter than the web filter, confirmed by the developer on the App Store in May 2026. Web payments are non-refundable under the current Terms of Service. Trustpilot has an ongoing thread of billing complaints in 2026 about annual plans renewing without users noticing. The realistic-NSFW ban is enforced platform-wide by an AI moderator that sometimes over-applies to clean prompts. The docs use one tier naming (Starter, Hobbyist, Pro) while the current blog uses another (Starter, Plus, Premium), and both are visible in different corners of the product. Neither side of that is buried.
What Melissa does not do
No paid consulting for platforms covered on this site or its sister sites. No shareholdings in Mewtant Inc., METANOMALY PTE. LTD., or their disclosed investors. No sponsored placement. No first-person testing scenes with paid features that were not actually observed; those are credited to the source that observed them. Full independence and conflict-of-interest rules on the editorial policy page.
Corrections
Reach the editor with a factual correction on LinkedIn. Intake within one business day; the correction is published within three business days of the original message if the change is verified. If the correction changes a claim on a page, the claim is updated, the source is added, and the dateModified field moves on the affected article. Substantive changes carry a dated note at the foot of the affected page. Full process on the methodology page.
